Already on the coast? You don't need to fly to Nairobi to go on safari — Tsavo is right on your doorstep. This three-day loop from Mombasa or Diani takes you into Tsavo East for the famous red-dust elephants and open plains, and Tsavo West for the crystal springs of Mzima and the volcanic scenery, before returning you to the beach. The easiest safari add-on to a coast holiday there is.

Sail the reef lagoon on a traditional wooden dhow as the sun sets — often with fresh seafood and drinks aboard.
The marine park off Diani is warm, clear and full of life — a boat out to the coral gardens for snorkelling or a first dive.
A full day south to Wasini Island — dolphin-spotting in the Kisite marine park, snorkelling, and a Swahili seafood lunch.

Morning pickup from your Mombasa or Diani hotel and the drive into Tsavo East. Afternoon game drive across the red plains for elephant, lion, buffalo and giraffe.

Very — Tsavo is huge, wild and uncrowded, with excellent elephant, lion and buffalo, plus the unique Mzima Springs. Two nights lets you see both halves.
