Tsavo & Amboseli — Kenya's wild south — the red elephants and vast space of Tsavo, Mzima Springs' underwater hippos, then Amboseli's great herds beneath Kilimanjaro
5 days · 4 nights · Best Jun – Oct
About this experience
Tsavo is Kenya's biggest wilderness — two parks (East and West) so vast you can drive for an hour without seeing another vehicle. Its elephants are famously 'red', dust-bathed in the ochre soil. At Mzima Springs you watch hippo and crocodile through an underwater viewing chamber. Pair it with Amboseli's Kilimanjaro backdrop and you have the perfect southern circuit — and because it sits on the Nairobi–Mombasa road, it slots neatly before a beach finish.

Common questions
Why are Tsavo's elephants red?+
They dust- and mud-bathe in Tsavo's iron-rich red soil, which coats their grey skin a deep ochre. It's one of the park's signatures — and a striking sight against the dry plains.
Is Tsavo good for first-timers?+
It's better as a second safari or a combo. Tsavo is huge and wild, so sightings take more driving than the compact Mara or Amboseli — that space is the appeal, but first-timers often prefer to start with denser parks.
Can I finish this trip at the beach?+
Perfectly — Tsavo sits on the Nairobi–Mombasa road, so adding 3–4 nights in Diani or Watamu is easy. Pick the 'Add the coast' option or tell us and we'll tailor it.
