Family Safari — A safari built around kids — shorter drives, family rooms, a giraffe walk, a boat ride, and guides who turn a game drive into a treasure hunt
5 days · 4 nights · Good year-round
About this experience
We designed this trip with our own kids in mind. It keeps drive times short, picks lodges with pools and interconnecting family rooms, and builds in the active, hands-on things children actually love — walking with giraffe on Crescent Island, a hippo boat ride, junior-ranger activities, and a Maasai afternoon learning to throw a (blunt) spear. The wildlife is still world-class; it's just paced for small humans.

Signature experiences
Optional add-ons our specialists can build into this trip. Prices are per person, confirmed on request.
Lift off at dawn over the plains, drift silently above the herds, and land to a champagne bush breakfast. The definitive Mara morning.
A boat out among the hippos and fish eagles of Naivasha, then a walk on Crescent Island where the game roams free.
Spend an hour in a working manyatta — the jumping dance, fire-making, and a look at daily Maasai life, hosted by the community itself.
A lantern-lit table set out under the stars, your own chef and a crackling fire — the safari dinner people remember for years.

The plan, day by day
From pickup to drop-off — exactly what your trip looks like.
An easy first day — short drive to Naivasha, an afternoon boat ride past hippos, and a relaxed lodge with a pool to shake off the flight.
Walk among zebra and giraffe (no predators, totally safe) on Crescent Island — kids love being out of the car. Afternoon at the pool or a bike ride at Hell's Gate.
Transfer to the Mara with a picnic stop. Gentle afternoon game drive — the guide runs a 'spot the animal' game that keeps everyone glued to the windows.
A morning drive with a bush breakfast, back for lunch and a pool break, then a shorter afternoon drive. Junior-ranger certificate and a Maasai village visit.
One last morning drive, brunch, and the road back to Nairobi — tired, happy and full of stories.

Common questions
What's the youngest age you'd recommend?+
We take families with children of any age, but safaris flow best from about 3 up — old enough to enjoy the animals and manage a game drive. Many Mara camps set a minimum age of 6 for shared vehicles; we choose family-friendly properties that welcome younger kids.
Are the long drives a problem with children?+
That's exactly why this itinerary avoids them — every transfer is short, broken with a stop, and we build pool time into the middle of each day. No marathon road days.
Can you handle dietary needs and car seats?+
Yes — tell us allergies, fussy eaters and ages and we'll brief the lodges and bring appropriate child seats. Just give us a heads-up when you book.
