About this experience

An easy, scenery-rich short break from Nairobi that doesn't need a flight. Lake Nakuru is a walled sanctuary packed with both black and white rhino, Rothschild's giraffe and (when the water is right) a pink rim of flamingo. An hour away, Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake where you can take a boat past hippos and fish eagles, then walk freely among zebra and giraffe on Crescent Island — no vehicle, no fences.

Common questions

Will I see flamingos at Lake Nakuru?+

It depends on water levels. When the lake is shallow and alkaline the flamingos arrive in their thousands; after heavy rains they disperse to other Rift lakes. Rhino, giraffe and lion are reliable year-round regardless.

Is Crescent Island really a walking safari?+

Yes — it's a private sanctuary with no predators, so you walk freely among zebra, giraffe, wildebeest and waterbuck. It's one of the few places in Kenya you can safely be on foot with wildlife.

Can I add the Maasai Mara to this trip?+

Easily — Naivasha is on the road to the Mara. Tell us your dates and we'll extend the itinerary with 2–3 Mara nights.
