About this experience

The Chyulu Hills are some of the youngest mountains on Earth — rolling green volcanic ridges between Amboseli and Tsavo, with Kilimanjaro as a constant backdrop. This is a private wilderness (part of a Maasai-owned conservancy) so it's exclusive and quiet: horseback safaris, mountain-biking, walking with Maasai guides, and lava-tube caves. Big cats roam freely and you'll rarely share a sighting. Pure, cinematic Africa.

Highlights

  • Honeymoons

The Chyulu Hills are made for it — bike the green ridges and explore lava-tube caves with a Maasai guide.

Horseback safari from$80

Ride out among plains game that lets a horse far closer than a vehicle — for confident riders, one of the great ways to see the bush.

Maasai village visit from$20

Common questions

Where exactly are the Chyulu Hills?+

Between Amboseli and Tsavo West in southern Kenya — the green volcanic range made famous by Out of Africa. They sit within Maasai-owned conservancies, so the area is private and exclusive.

Do I need to ride to enjoy this trip?+

Not at all — riding is optional. Game drives, guided walks, biking and the lava caves are all on offer, and the views of Kilimanjaro alone justify the trip.

Is it really that exclusive?+

Yes — vehicle numbers are tightly capped on the conservancies, so sightings are intimate and you'll rarely see another car. It's a step up in privacy from the national parks.
